Description

After trumpets of the apocalypse proclaim the fall of humanity, vampires arise from the shadows to rule the earth. Yuichiro wants just one thing—to get revenge by killing each and every vampire. Yuichiro’s dream is near-impossible, given that vampires are seven times stronger than humans, and the only way to kill them is by mastering Cursed Gear, advanced demon-possessed weaponry. Not to mention that humanity’s most elite Vampire Extermination Unit, the Moon Demon Company, wants nothing to do with Yuichiro unless he can prove he’s willing to work in a team—which is the last thing he wants!

I love the plot and how it gets deeper and deeper as the series goes on. It’s characters are well written, and the art is beautiful. I definitely recommend.

Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign is a great new manga series, and I've been interested in it since its first chapter in the English Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The setting, plot, and artwork are all fantastic. Some of the characters seem shallow at first glance, but they surprise me with all of their hidden depth, secrets, and less-overt agendas later on. This series has a surprising amount of mystery to it, and nothing is as it first appears. The publishing team has done well making the dialogue sassy and memorable, and its much better than what a reader might find on scanlations. The first volume opens up with a tragic but memorable first chapter introducing a few key characters and a unique setting. Chapter 1 ends in tragedy with many hints about what is to come. Chapter 2 reveals part of the world above ground and trolls readers by making them think it took a genre shift into a school setting (this setting ends in next volume). The action scenes are intense and fast, and the main character is definitely not the strongest person around. The third chapter introduces demons, who possess their victims and consume them using thralls and illusions. Dreams and nightmares are a repeating theme throughout this series. The 4-koma at the end are pretty funny, too. The series starts off a bit slow since it focuses more on introducing the lead characters one by one, but it really begins to pick up the pace as reveals appear one after the other. The first three volumes are more like an introduction to the series while the fourth is where the story truly begins. I strongly recommend sticking with the series all the way through.
