Interior decorator, Erin Gilbert heads to picturesque Crestview, Colorado for a friendly (if sharks are friendly) competition: She’ll design a room in one home; and the impossibly handsome Steve Sullivan—her main rival—will do a room in another. The prize? A big feature in Denver Magazine, showcasing their interior design business.
Who could have dreamed the uproar to ensue in a neighborhood full of eccentric homeowners, jealously hidden secrets and a few marriages in need of total makeovers. Trapped together in the midst of chaos, could the charming Steve turn out to be a…friend?
But between her custom, cushy pillows and dramatic drapery, Erin uncovers a very undecorative dead body, too many suspects, and a killer who seems to have designs…on her!

I enjoyed the book but felt there were too many descriptions of Erin’s job. It seemed to go on and on so that I just started skipping parts. It would have been better if it were condensed into a shorter book.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the interior design information, the characters were well described and the plot left me guessing to the end. Will definitely read more by this author!
  • OK but not great

This was my first book to read by this author. It was ok, but not great. There were just far too many grammatical errors such as me and (fill in the blank) or I and whomever. There were words left out of sentences. I read one sentence five times and still couldn’t figure out what was meant. The plot dragged. Erin Gilbert had one too many moms. She was also highly unlikeable because of her quick temper and her way of drawing conclusions without knowing all of the facts. The whole neighborhood was a regular cesspool. I probably won't read anymore books by this author.

Really good read. Just a few errors missed in proof reading.

An excellent read. Light, but well-crafted. Fun, well-developed characters and a plot that kept me guessing, but was still believable. Only reason I didn't give it five stars was because of all the typos.

A real "page turner" that held my interest and kept me guessing right up to the end!!!

This was a good cast of characters, a careful plot and, as a graphic designer, an unusual plot for a simple but "needs-to-be-careful" designers tool. Well read!

The perfect layer cake book. On one layer it is a 'who done it' On another 'Is anyone truthful about who they are or what say?' The over all 'icing' on the cake is made of a mixture wit, humor with a touch of sarcasm. Well written, keeps the reader guessing about everything except the 2 designers; even their names : Gilbert & Sullivan are a foreshadow of a great Read!
  • Fun, cute beach read

Well written, strong lead, a little desperate housewives-y, I started to lose track of connections, but I made it. Made me want to adopt a black cat and snuggle in a chaise lounge.
