Description

Jo Ravens is thirty-two, divorced, and stuck in a rut. She wants a new career, and she wants to lose the sixty pounds she packed on after her divorce. Her knack for finding dead bodies points her in the right direction for a career change, while her sister’s exuberance for weight loss gimmicks enables both of them to try new, creative ways to shed pounds.

When Jo crashes her bike in a construction site, she lands on a naked girl with a knife in her chest. Because Jo was instrumental in solving two previous murders with the help of her sister and their journalist friend, she enlists them once again to help solve the girl’s murder. Things become creepy for Jo when the murdered girl appears in her dreams and offers unusual clues to her death.

Murder Under Construction is a humorous mystery with Jo’s family adding to the antics of the three women. Mama caterwauls, her sister's two children offer sleuthing assistance, and her brother laughs at all of them from the sidelines. Murder Under Construction is light, easy-breezy reading from Maddie Cochere.

Main character very down to earth adding insights about friends and family, her own likes, dislikes and embarrassing moments.

Jo seems like someone I would hang out with IRL. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series but I am pacing myself because this is a “I can’t put it down “ kind of book.

Best book I have read in a very long time! Lots of humor and a great plot. I don’t know when I have ever laughed so hard that tears were streaming down my face. Can’t wait to get the rest of this series! Thanks so much, Maddie. You lifted my spirit and entertained me and my daughter (who is now reading this book). God Bless you!

Fun but the content could have been written off the cuff, with not much of any sort of detail that requires any research on the writers part at all. I tend to like learning some sort of specialized knowledge on a things, places, jobs etc while doing these light mystery reads.

The story could have been much better if the main character wasn’t portrayed as a fat slob who ate everything in sight, spilling it all over herself and everything else. No one wants to read a mystery that revolves around someone who can’t control themselves around pie and donuts. Should name company or next novel, Hog to the trough. Sorry but made me sick.

A good read that carried you through from clue to clue but who dun it was not obvious. Liked the characters with their physical flaws and good intentions. An over weight woman who drinks beer and shoves down desserts like crazy while talking about losing weight is too real. Enjoyed reading it.
  • Easy breezy.
