On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: San Francisco Chronicle, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, The Chicago Tribune, HuffPost, Newsday

I’ll admit, I had seen the movie way before reading this book and I am blown away by both the film AND this book. More detailed, even more intense, and so many differences that didn’t make it into the film that I thoroughly enjoyed. I would say this is probably the best book I have read recently — I couldn’t put it down and I’m sad it’s ended. Looking forward to reading more from this author. 10/10 rating.

Not ever read a book like this. I hope I never do again. It is very very dark.
  • It doesn’t get any better than this!

Very manipulative story. I think it was hyped up too much. Going to watch the movie now!
  • Now time to watch the movie

This book was a wild ride. Twist after twist. Not going to lie, after the first twist with the husband I was so mad that I stopped reading for a week. It was just that good. 10/10

  • Disappointing end

Fast paced, couldn’t put it down and then about 3/4 of the way through it slowed down a lot. I almost skipped to the end and then it just stopped. I was very disappointed in how it ended. It wasn’t a good ending that left you thinking, it was the kind that made you wonder why you read it in the first place.
  • Awesome Writing

It’s funny that most of the bad reviews are expressing the feelings the author wanted you to feel and I love that. Both main characters are not good people, and that really screws with you throughout the book.
