Description

An uplifting story of finding love in unlikely places and having the strength to come to terms with the past.

Serenity House is a safe haven. It offers peace and the chance to heal for women in need. Ironically, no one needs that safe haven as much as the woman who runs Serenity House: Samantha Riggins. When a pregnant teenager lands on her doorstep it’s nothing new. But something about this girl doesn’t seem right and Sam reaches out to the one person who has the power to upend her world: J.D. Kronos, a private investigator with secrets of his own.

Things get more complicated when a recently-widowed mother with a young son arrive at Serenity House.

The son Sam gave up for adoption ten years ago.

The son J.D. knows nothing about.

A pregnant teenager, a recent widow, a young boy looking for answers and a couple with a history and love that can not be denied, all find themselves digging deep to find the truth of themselves behind all the secrets they have kept from each other.

Perfect for fans of Brenda Novak and Susan Mallery

So good! (ten tissue alert!) Samantha manages a women’s shelter and J D is the PI she calls when there’s trouble. This is a slow burn romance full of secrets and tension and heat. OMG I loved this relationship and all of the twists and turns!!

I can always count on several things when I read a Molly O'Keefe book - ugly crying, smiling, having my heart broken and pieced back together. The Story of Us was no exception. Sam and J.D. are a couple of self-contained, walled-off-to-others, strong personalities. They've been hurt and won't let the world hurt them again. Acting like a few days together here and there are enough helps keep each of them from being hurt by the other. As always, they reunite in the sexiest of ways when Sam calls J.D. to help her with a new intake at her women's shelter. While dealing with that issue, the unthinkable happens. The biggest secret ever between the two comes to light. Can they finally admit their love, build a life together, move on from a huge ill-advised secret? Can they protect the young woman running from the biggest threat against her, her own family? The story could have been fleshed out more and the characters developed more with more of their history. It just felt a little light for my tastes though what was there was exceptional. There's plenty of suspense, self-destructive stubbornness, love and an HEA. Good job, Molly.
