Description

She will fight for her freedom. He will fight for her life.

Mila might be slaveborn, but she has no intention of remaining a slave. Impatient for her freedom, the nineteen-year-old takes matters into her own hands. Armed with the combat skills her half-brother taught her, Mila ignores the pleas of her family and takes to the arena. She is prepared to do whatever is necessary, prepared for anything—except Remus Latinius.

Raised inside the greatest gladiator school in Rome, Remus fought hard for his freedom. He earned it the only way he knew how—in the arena. Now he is content training others to do the fighting—or so he thought. Something changes the night he meets a slave girl desperate to prove herself. He should walk away, but the gods have other plans.

This is the first book in the historical action romance series Roman Hearts. If you enjoy a moving love story with strong female characters, then you will love A Gladiator's Oath.

A Gladiator's Oath (Roman Hearts Book 1) by Tanya Bird This is a new author to me and I look forward to reading more of her books! I really enjoyed being transported back in time when the world gathered to Rome’s coliseums to watch and be entertained by the infamous gladiators and the wild exotic animals as they fight to the death. It starts out with Mila who is a slave and a gifted street fighter with one goal which is to earn her freedom from slavery. Mila got that opportunity when she was bought as a slave by a woman who herself dreamed of fighting as a gladiator when she was younger but was denied because, of her upper class status. So, vicariously she paid for Mila’s gladiator training by the best gladiator of the time and contracted an agreement if she won the one fight she would give Mila her freedom. If only it was that easy. The storyline is engaging and well written with great attention to world building detail and, the plot has a couple surprising twists I didn’t see coming. I loved the charming chemistry, witty banter, and the slow burn romance between the admirable and heart felt protagonists. This story is touching and tells of the power of believing in oneself, and the strength and fortitude to keep going through extreme physical and emotional pain, and the metal to never give up and to never give in. I’m looking forward to the next book. Happy Reading!

One of most jarring and exciting books I have read in some time. I was shocked and yet the story was quite realistic. The richness of the characters came across on every page. I loved reading this book and have recommended it to others.

This book is a Five! In all of my years of reading, I have never read such a topic. Besides educating me in an intriguing scenario, the author spun a story about characters and a way of life that I never knew existed. Of course, I have known about early Rome and it’s illustrious history but this was a totally new avenue. I had moments that I could not stop reading and went well into the night!

A Roman gladiator romance to sink my mind & teeth into. I wish it was longer. In order to find out how their story progresses you have to read the next two books. While I did purchase the next two books; I wasn’t into them as much as this one. They have different main characters and gladiators disappear. Fight scenes are good and the love tension between the main characters is entertaining (since they’re both gladiators). The history aspect isn’t very in depth; I wish there was more of that. The author chose to modernize some of it. Enjoy!

Tanya Bird does not disappoint with this fantastic book. Her descriptions make you feel like you are there, you cheer on the main characters the whole way. I really couldn’t put this book down. Well worth reading. Can’t wait to read your next novel, Tanya!

I have read The Companion series by Tanya Bird and enjoyed them so much that I couldn’t wait to read her next story. I have to say that it didn’t disappoint. I love historical romance books, but this one, involving Roman gladiators is very different from the Irish or English settings I usually read. It didn’t take long for me to really get involved in the story. It is full of suspense and some real sadness, she is a slave trying to earn her freedom. This story has it all, even a dose of humor here and there. I highly recommend! Can’t wait for more from this writer.
