If you have no idea what a bonsai is but would like to learn a little bit about it, this is a wonderful place to start! There is a nice summary on the history of bonsai, a nice section about popular trees and how to care for them, and a slightly more in depth section on the techniques of bonsai. All in all, this is a nice, short, and sweet read on what you should know about bonsai if you would like to have one yourself!

This book is a great resource for the beginner and a good refresher for the rest. Very comprehensive and presented in a way that demystifies the art of keeping trees in a little pot.

I thoroughly enjoyed this text. It covers all the basics and then some. It has all the information I would have loved to have had when I first started Bonsai back in the late 60s! I encourage anyone who buys the book to also go to the author’s website Bonsai Empire and purchase (very reasonably) the various videos he has with top artists. I watch them over again just to relax and enjoy watching them work with the material when I am not around mine.
