Description

In this Brooklyn Bruisers romance from USA Today bestselling author Sarina Bowen, a hockey goalie has to trust his instincts, even when taking a shot to the heart…

Mike Beacon is a champion at defending the net, but off the ice, he’s not so lucky. A widower and a single father, he’s never forgotten Lauren Williams, the ex who gave him the best year of his life. When Lauren reappears in the Bruisers' office during the play-offs, Beacon sees his chance to make things right.

Lauren hates that she’s forced to travel with the team she used to work for and the man who broke her heart. There’s still undeniable sexual tension running between her and Mike, but she won’t go down that road again. She’s focused on her plans for the future—she doesn’t need a man to make her dreams of motherhood come true.

Lauren plays her best defensive game, but she’s no match for the dark-eyed goalie. When the field of play moves to Florida, things heat up on the beach.

One of Mike’s biggest fans doesn’t approve—his teenage daughter. But a true competitor knows not to waste the perfect shot at love.

PIPE DREAMS has many of the elements I love in a book. It is written by Sarina Bowen, one of my favorite authors, it features a hot hockey player and it is a second chance at love. This is the third book in the Brooklyn Bruisers series and each one is a standalone but the characters are all Interconnected. Lauren Williams works for the owner of the Brooklyn Bruisers hockey team. She is still trying to get over her breakup with Mike Beacon, the goalie for the Brooklyn Bruisers and is not happy when her boss asks her to work with the team again. For two years Lauren has been able to avoid Mike. Now that she is working for the team again, Lauren finds it painful every time she sees Mike. Lauren Is smart, hardworking and stubborn. She has never had it easy and I found it easy to empathize with her. Mike has dedicated his life to hockey and is a veteran on the Bruisers. He works hard and spends all his time either playing hockey or with his thirteen year old daughter. When Mike sees Lauren again, he realizes he still has feelings for her and he tries to convince Lauren she is all he has ever wanted. Mike never explained his motives for breaking up with Lauren and he really hurt her but it turns out his reasons were not selfish. Mike is a good guy who is always trying to do the right thing. He has made a lot of sacrifices and deserves to be happy. Lauren is the only woman he has ever wanted and he has to prove to her how much he cares. I liked both Mike and Lauren and thought they had a lot chemisty and are good for each other. Mike and Lauren have not had an easy time in life and they deserve some happiness. Even though they are meant to be together, things keep getting in the way of their relationship. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I was given an advanced copy of this book to write an honest review for Netgalley and Cocktails and Books.

  • Terrific second chance romance

Even though this is part of a series, this book can be read as a stand-alone. I haven’t read the other two books in this series and I didn’t miss a beat. I love sports romance and second chance romance so this was right in my wheelhouse! What a devastatingly beautiful love story this was. Mike and Lauren had known each other for years, considered each other friends, until Mike was going through his divorce. Then he pursued Lauren. They were soul mates and each other’s one true love. Until Mike started pulling away. Then one evening he ended it with Lauren, telling her he was moving back with his wife and daughter. All he said was that they needed him and he was sorry. Lauren tried for weeks to get Mike to give her more answers, but he wouldn’t take her calls. She finally gave up. Brokenhearted she left the organization that she loved, working for the Bruisers and took a position with another part of the company that owned the team. Until her boss told her she had to go back and work as the office manager again for the Bruisers temporarily. That’s the last thing she wanted to do was go back and see Mike again. All the humiliation and pain of seeing him again. Mike’s wife died a year ago, ovarian cancer. He moved home to help take care of their pre-teen daughter. Mike is a great guy, he still loves Lauren, he never stopped, but he messed things up so badly with her. He handled it all wrong and he knew she wouldn’t want to try to have a relationship with him again. She had lost her trust not only in him, but with all men. This is all about second chances and forgiveness. Mike and Lauren had a once in a lifetime kind of love that couldn’t be ignored and Mike wouldn’t let Lauren forget that. There was so much time they had to make up for and hurdles to get over. It was a road they had to go down and not ignore. There was some push and pull between the characters, but the pain and love between these two was evident. The story was so well written and all the feels came through. I really enjoyed this second chance hockey romance and I know you will too! I can’t wait for more!
